The extension of the validity of the EU Ecolabel criteria

On 3 July 2019, the European Commission published Commission Decision (EU) 2019/1134 of 1 July 2019 amending Decision 2009/300/EC and Decision (EU) 2015/2099, as regards the period of validity of the ecological criteria for the award of the EU Ecolabel to certain products, and of the related assessment and verification requirements, i.e.:

• televisions
• growing media, soil improvers and mulch.

In line with the conclusions of the EU Ecolabel Fitness check (REFIT), the Commission, together with the EU Ecolabelling Board (EUEB), assessed the relevance of each product group before proposing its prolongation. This assessment confirmed the adequacy and suitability of the current ecological criteria and the related assessment and verification requirements, therefore the ecological criteria for:

• televisions – shall be valid until 31 December 2020
• growing media, soil improvers and gardening mulch – shall be valid until 30 June 2021.
